Genuine giving gives joy and peace – money can’t

“Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.”

2 Corinthians 9:7

Encouraging Generosity

Love is a giving quality! When love abounds in our hearts, we give without measure and expect nothing in return. We do it simply because it is the very nature of love. The joy in giving is much more rewarding than the joy of receiving. Generosity is truly fulfilling!

Giving away free clothes at Klongtoey slum area

We all have struggles in our lives, but many of us are still better off than most people. Where we are born in the world is a matter of chance.

Our fellows in the slum area! Many of us are far more privileged than them. These people residing in the slum area have no other choice; the slums are the only affordable option for them.

We can’t choose where we are born. Just like them, it’s not their choice too; yet they are made homeless by loss of accommodation and the inaccessibility of alternatives.

We can’t always choose the kind of life we want but we can choose to use our privilege to assist others who are in need.

These poor people at Klongtoey slum area need essential help and support. Our group members are not rich but our hearts are overflowing with love and generosity. We share what we have and are willing to donate items that these poor people may need. Generosity does not always have to do with money; it has to do with the content of our hearts.

This time, we focused on giving away free clothes as part of our outreach ministry. It was a lovely Sabbath morning and our group was filled with eager anticipation to visit those people waiting for us at Klongtoey slum area. They knew we were coming as we handed them a letter in advance before going there. The 15th of June 2019 was specifically marked on our group’s calendar as this was the day we are going to meet them. Approaching the venue, we saw old folk and children waiting for us with radiant smiles and we all quickly exchanged warm greetings with each other.

Before travelling there, our group had early morning worship. Afterwards, we packed up our things and all the items that we prepared to take, such as clothes, bags, shoes and stuffed toys. All the people waiting for us were so excited when they saw us coming with the things we are carrying. They know the items are all for free and that we are bringing the items for them. In haste, we set up the venue and displayed everything ready for them to browse through the garments and have their choice of item.

Generosity is sharing your God-given gifts and talents

Some of our group members have been blessed with the talent of playing instrumental music and some are eagerly learning how to play. Combining our ministry with music is a wonderful way to enhance our ministry and a great way of bringing the gospel message to others. With this new hobby and interest amongst our members, our group were recently practicing playing the Ukulele together. After all the practices we had, it all came together wonderfully. The feeling was truly remarkable, knowing that these dear people were enjoying hearing us playing instruments and singing songs for them which we did both in Thai and English.

Sometimes, they would pause to listen and watch and then continue going through the items. It was at this moment that we felt so inspired. It motivated us to do our best, for we know by heart that we are doing this for the service of our Lord.

Free books for precious souls

Behind the scene of this free giving ministry lies a deeper purpose. It’s a great opportunity for us to share the word of God. The gospel is too precious to keep to ourselves and sharing it should always be a part of our daily lives. This is a perfect time to do evangelism, a divine privilege to give others the best news they will ever know. We are not delivering sermons, nor verbally preaching, but through these books that we are distributing, we pray that God can use these to impact their lives and to bring them closer unto the feet of our precious Savior.

Be kind, be generous and above all be courageous to share our faith! We don’t have to be uncertain or doubtful when it comes to sharing Christ with those we know or with strangers. There are different forms of evangelism, and one of these is book giving. There is nothing more fulfilling than knowing we have made a difference in the lives of other people; we have not only shared what we have, but we were also given a chance to share our faith. May the books “Steps To Christ”, which they received, become a special way for them to know about the truth.

Money can’t buy happiness; unless we spend it for others

Once we realize that everything we have is a free gift from God, our inner perspective will completely change. Behold, our salvation, we received it freely. The gift of life, the blessings of our families, our work and occupation, our friend cycles and every blessing that we keep on receiving, these are all free and we receive them all from God as free gifts. Once we realize this vital truth, our hearts will begin to overflow with gratitude leading to kindness and generosity.

There should be no doubt in our minds that we are truly blessed. We should endeavor to extend these blessings and to be vessels that God may use in blessing others.

Money cannot buy happiness. It is by genuine and unselfish giving that we will find a deeper feeling of happiness.

It is through the generosity that we enrich and perpetuate both our own lives and the lives of others. Happiness is found in helping others. A genuine and generous heart should be the foundation for our giving. It is not how much we give, rather how much love we put into giving. If we were able to make someone smile and feel happy, then that’s worth far more than money or any material item.

Surely there are bountiful blessings for us when we give freely to others. What wonderful lasting feelings!

Generosity makes us feel happier and keeps life going

As true Christians, we live to give, not to receive. We should always pray that God will open our eyes that we may see opportunities to serve Him and others in need.

God loves a cheerful giver! The joy of giving will bring great happiness back to us. The smiles and joy that we see from the faces of the people who received our simple gifts at Klongtoey have brought us fulfilling pleasures deep within. Peace, happiness and beams of gladness, these are some of the instant returns of giving.

Giving is good for us as it is for those we are helping because giving gives us purpose. When we have a purpose-driven life, we are a happier person. Our prayer is that, as we submit to God’s will and direction and live generously in every area of our lives, God will bless us exceedingly, abundantly more than we could ask or imagine and He will give us prosperity in all that we do.
