The baptism of the Holy Spirit

“Jesus answered, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God.” John 3:5 ESV

Getting married and getting baptized have similarities. In fact, the Bible portrays the Church as a beautiful bride adorned for her Groom. The grand celebration of the wedding day is the couple’s public announcement of their love for each other. After the wedding, both individuals will welcome a new life together. There will be the challenge and privilege of walking together as one.

The same is true when one accepts Jesus as his personal Saviour. The baptism is the public declaration of one’s acceptance of Christ. Living a sanctified life through the power of the Holy Spirit comes after baptism. Both baptisms of the water and of the Spirit need to be experienced by a professing Christian.

One reason why a church is dead, even though it’s active in many ministries, is that most members have forgotten to let the Holy Spirit continue to work in their lives.
